Y1 Exploring Character Strengths

Books are always a great way for exploring concepts. One activity that was successful both for talking about character strengths and for identifying the purpose of a story was a recent follow up from the book “The Invisible String” by Patrice Karst.

After we read the book the students reflected on what character strengths they connected to the story. The children talked about the strengths of love, bravery and kindness and explained their thinking.

We then did some paired work to think and plan for their own stories. What will be the purpose (character strength) of your story? Who will be the characters? Where will the story happen? What will happen in your story to show that strength?

The children then wrote/told their stories and illustrated them.

Each day we will have ‘Story of the Day’ to share and talk about our stories.
