Using Character Strengths to support IEP SMART targets – the process included conferencing the student to develop their understanding of their IEP targets and co-construct these into the student’s voice. This included both the ‘What’ and the ‘How’ of their learning target. The strength flower identifies these targets on the leaves, the students Signature Strengths are a chosen petal colour, and the strengths they feel they need to ‘dial up’ to enable them to experience success with their SMART target is a different colour of petal. These flowers have been used to facilitate reflective discussions during recent LDT review meetings (with student and parents). More leaves (targets) and petals (strengths) can be added over the course of the year.
